The Wirral Artisans are a collective of environmentally aware local artisans and makers collaborating to support each other and local charities. All produce is home made from locally sourced material. If you ever get chance to visit one of their markets or events I encourage you to do so.
I was asked by the Wirral Artisans to write a press release to cover the success of their first ‘maker’s market’ event in West Kirby. It was important to them that we not only reported on the event but that we also captured the ethos behind the group.
Local Makers Make a Success
A collaborative group of Wirral makers and artists have launched a regular pop up event with great success.
The first ever ‘Wirral Artisans Makers’ Market’ was held at St Andrew’s Church in West Kirby in April. There were over 20 different stalls with a diverse range of locally produced, hand crafted products.
With live music playing and amazing homemade food on offer, the hall was buzzing with activity. The stalls displayed some outstanding talent including portraits from visual artist Linda Edward and beautifully handcrafted bags and jewellery.
Buy local, Support local
Founded by Sam Peddie, the ‘Buy Local, Support Local’ campaign was launched in a local magazine ‘Living Wirral’ which was co-owned by Sam. Sam realised the power of combining talented sole traders to offer support and guidance. This ignited the idea of forming the Wirral Artisans as it is today.
The ethos of the group is captured in their mission statement:
“Wirral Artisans is a collective of environmentally aware local artisans and makers collaborating to support each other and local charities…to encourage local community involvement and reinvest in the local economy…offering unique and personal handcrafted goods whilst networking with a range of local charities to raise funds and awareness”.
Since its inception in 2018, the group has already gained over 140 members. All members must attest that their products are at least 30% handmade to be eligible to join.
Success in numbers
The group has received great support from Margaret Campbell, the organiser of West Kirby Farmers’ Market, which is held at the same venue on the 4th Saturday of the month. Louis at Santander in Heswall has also supported the group. Individual makers are certainly seeing benefits in joining the collective.
If you missed the event don’t worry! West Kirby will be a regular host to the Makers’ Markets with a further six events confirmed at St Andrew’s Church between now and December. Other venues, including Otto Lounge in Heswall, are also regular hosts. More events and venues will be listed in 2018.
“With the support of the general public, we should hopefully retain the unique Wirral identity we are all so proud of”.

I was asked by consultancy agency By Day to write about my experiences as a freelance copywriter. I drew upon my initial moment of realisation, when it dawned on me that I needed to trust my instinct and leave the secure corporate world behind.
The Hewitt Centre
I recently wrote a piece for The Hewitt Fertility Centre to discuss a personal perspective of receiving IVF treatment. I was also asked to include a male perspective, so I edited and redrafted my husband’s writing and incorporated it into the piece.
